Glossary - commonly used terms

See the Productsup glossary for commonly used terms.

Here you can find the most commonly used Productsup terms.

Import

Product Identifier

The product identifier is your site's unique ID. You set it up in the site's main menu Data Source, then the Settings tab. You need a product identifier for both Monitor and Data Services to work.

Main Data Sources

Data Sources add products to your sites. Each new main data source that you add imports more products and extends the data vertically.

Additional data sources

Additional data sources contain additional information about products that are part of your main data source. An additional data source links information to the products in the main data source via an identifier, usually an ID. Each additional data source extends the data horizontally.

Data

System columns

Systems columns are columns in the Data View and Dataflow sections where a long underscore precedes the column data. For example, ___id

These columns do not appear in any export feeds, and the platform uses them internally. You can create system columns by adding a custom column beginning with three underscores (___).

Warning connections

You can see a warning connection message appear and later disappear whenever a column has an active connection between the Import and Intermediate columns, which later disappears from the Import feed. You can also see a warning connection if a rule box is missing some necessary column input.

Indirect connections

An indirect connection message indicates that the platform uses data from a column in a rule box and another column, not the main data attribute.

In the following example, the mobile_link column is indirectly connected to the image_link column in the intermediate stage. This indirect connection occurs when there is an Append/Prepend rule box prepending the mobile_link data.

Export

Channel

A channel is a target export where you want to send your data, for example, Google Merchant Center.

Export feed

An export feed is a file containing the products that you send to a channel.

Destination

A destination is a method that lets you upload your export file. Destinations can be physical storage spaces, for example, Amazon S3 Bucket, an FTP Server, or an upload mechanism, such as an API. More examples of a destination include Productsup Server, Google Merchant Center FTP, and Content for Shopping API.

General

Run

A run is an entire process from import to export in Productsup. It is comprised of:

  • The import of your data through the Data Sources section

  • The optimization of all products through boxes

  • The optimization of restructuring of products through Data Services

  • The export of feeds for each channel

Maintained products

The number of Maintained Products is the average number of processed rows in a site over one month. You can find this information in the Activity menu from a site, project, or account level. You can also refer to Maintained Products as administered lines or the average of imported rows.

Site

A site consists of imported products that you can optimize and split to create multiple export feeds.

Project

A project is a container for a site(s). Use a project to organize sites into a structure.

Account

The account consists of all information in Productsup that relates to your company, such as all projects, user management, monitoring, and more.
