Get weather information from the Open Weather Map service

Get weather information from the Open Weather Map service in Productsup.

Using the Open Weather Map service, you can get current weather and forecasts for any locations you have in the Platform. This can help you to customize images or make weather-relevant offers in your feeds.

Note

You will need an external API Key in order to use this service. You can register for a free account with access to a limited amount of features.

Make sure you have set a product identifier to use this service.

Add the Open Weather Map service

In order to add the Open Weather Map service, you should:

  1. Navigate to your site

  2. Navigate to Data Services on the left-hand tab

  3. Click add service

  4. Add the OpenWeatherMap service

  5. Give the service a name (if desired)

  6. Define a custom column prefix (if desired)

  7. Select whether to use the service on the import or intermediate level

  8. Click add

  9. Add in your API Key

  10. Select the forecast type you wish from the drop-down menu

  11. Choose the location type you have in your feed. This could be:

    • OpenWeatherMap city ID

    • City name and country abbreviation

    • Postal code and country

    • Latitude and Longitude

  12. Once you have selected the location type input the columns where this location type is found

Depending on which option you select for forecast, you will have different options to select from the following list:

  1. Choose the length of the forecast you wish to receive using the number of days forecast drop-down menu

  2. Choose whether to receive basic or all weather data

    • Basic: average temperature, humidity, simple description, and percentage of cloudiness

    • All: day temperature, minimum daily temperature, maximum daily temperature, night temperature, evening temperature, morning temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, cloudiness, basic weather description, detailed weather description

  3. Under system of measurement, you can select if you wish to receive the data according to the metric system, imperial system, or SI.

  4. Select the language you wish to receive your results in

  5. Select only trigger during scheduling if you want to not trigger the service during a refresh of the Data View

  6. Click save

Once you have set this up, new columns which include your information (the names are based on your prefix) will be created in the Platform.

Edit an existing Open Weather Map service

In order to edit settings for your Open Weather Map service, you should:

  1. Navigate to your site

  2. Navigate to Data Services on the left-hand tab

  3. Click on the settings wheel

Delete an existing Open Weather Map service

In order to delete your Open Weather Map service, you should:

  1. Navigate to your site

  2. Navigate to Data Services on the left-hand tab

  3. Click on the settings wheel

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click remove this service
