Productsup tracking explained (legacy document)

1. Track users

How do we track users?

When a user visits your site for the first time, we will create a cookie with his unique user ID. Whenever he visits your site in future again, he will be identified with the help of this cookie. The cookie does not expire; the user would need to actively delete it.

2. Attribution model

Which attribution model do we use?

We use the simple and effective ‘last click wins’ method. When a user places an order, we assign this order to the channel that the user visited last.

Please note: We will always assign orders to the last channel known to us.

So if the last click-link comes from a channel that is not recognized in our software, the order will be assigned to the next recognizable channel. This is the most common reason why differences may occur between our statistics and other tracking solutions.

How come sometimes orders are tracked but no clicks?

This usually happens when the last known click to us occurred prior to the time frame that you provided. It may also be that the actual channel that led to the sale is not managed in our software (see above).

3. Increase tracking accuracy

How can tracking accuracy be increased?

The best way to increase tracking accuracy is to add one (or more) new export channel(s) to our software and apply their tracking parameters to the links that you use externally. You do not need to process data feeds for these channels via our software, you merely have to enable them manually and apply the tracking parameters.

Contact us and we will gladly help you with the setup.

4. Time frame for ROI Management

What time frame do you use for ROI Management?

Currently the data shown in our "ROI Strategy" tab is based on the selected time frame in the "Tracking" tab. You can choose between 7, 14, 30 and 90 days.

The aggregated KPIs for the selected time frame will be added as new additional Data Sources to your import (file name "Tracking Data for {channel}").
