Add a rule box

Add a rule box to optimize your product data in Productsup.

To optimize your product data, you can add pre-configured rule boxes, which let you customize options to your needs. Rule boxes let you extract or edit product data directly from Data View, without having to manipulate your source feed file.

No coding is required to add a rule box. Once you find the rule box you need, drag and drop it in your desired column.

You can add rule boxes between the import and intermediate stages or between the intermediate and export stages.

Note

Any rules that you add between the import and intermediate stages, which are marked in green, affect all export feeds. The rule boxes that you add between the intermediate and export stages only affect the export you select.

The order in which you add rule boxes matters. The rule box at the top of the list has priority, while the platform processes any rule boxes that follow in order.

Add a rule box in Data View

The most effective way to add rule boxes is in Data View, which lets you see your actual product data as you optimize. For in-depth information on adding rules in the Data View, see Optimize your data in Data View with rule boxes.

  1. Go to Data View and select the stage Intermediate or Export from the left side of the top ribbon. Apply a rule box in the selected stage.

  2. Select Edit in the column where you are adding a rule box. This action opens a set of tabs on the right side of your view.

  3. Select the Add Box drop-down menu to expand it.

  4. Search for and select the relevant rule box.

  5. If necessary, configure the rule box by selecting or entering values. You can also see additional options for each rule box by selecting the blue wrench tool icon.

  6. Enter the Twig code snippet you want to apply to the data flow.

  7. If you are not in Live Preview, select Run from the top ribbon for processing the rule box changes. The rule box should appear in Data View after the run.

Add a rule box in Dataflow

You can also add rule boxes in Dataflow. From this view, you can make quick changes if you do not need to see your actual product data. For in-depth information on adding rules in Dataflow, see Optimize your data in Dataflow.

  1. Go to Dataflow from your site's main menu and, as necessary, select the relevant export channel.

  2. Select an attribute in the column where you are adding a rule box. This action opens an edit tab on the right side of your view.

  3. Select the Add Box drop-down menu to expand it.

  4. Search for and select the relevant rule box.

  5. If necessary, configure the rule box by selecting or entering values. You can also see additional options for each rule box by selecting the blue wrench tool icon.

  6. Select Save and go to Data View from your site's main menu. Now, select the correct channel, stage, and attribute that reflects the selections you made in Dataflow. You can now see the newly-added rule box here in Data View. For example, here are some options you may have chosen in Dataflow:

    • Channel - Google Merchant Center

    • Stage - Import or Intermediate

    • Attribute - id
